With over a decade of shooting live events, Andrew has the opportunity to truly define his vision for his photographs, earning the trust of many of the artists, management teams, and labels to do what he does best with minimal guidance. Over the years Andrew has worked as the in-house local photographer for 21 Entertainment (Alessia Cara, Fefe Dobson, Tyler Shaw, Sofia Camara, and formerly JoJo), as well as former label Kuya Productions (JRDN, Karina Es). Other recurring clients have included OVO Sound (Majid Jordan, DVSN) & Wax Records (Alyssa Reid). Andrew has taken the approach of selectively choosing the artists and labels he works with as his goal isn’t to capture everyone and anyone, but to instead bring out that something special that he sees in the artist for the rest of the world to see.
“I first started shooting live events in 2010 and have since shot hundreds of artists across many genres. There’s something about special about being able to capture THE SHOT when it comes to a live performance. There’s the unpredictableness of what’s about to happen as live concerts are what I consider to be the ultimate photographer challenge. Everything is constantly changing and you’re placed in the middle of it all, trying to time artist movements with lighting you can’t control, other photographers around you & typically a 2-3 song limit. Spray and pray is the solution for many photographers in this situation but for the best its an artform of being able to understand what the artist wants to do before they do it. It all gets easier if you’ve worked with artists multiple times but there’s always a little bit of luck that’s also involved. Here’s to the beauty of the art, & a little bit of luck.” - Andrew Palmer
